The theme for Paskuhan 2025, 'Light Among Us, Hope Through Us', carries a powerful message that resonates deeply with Thomasians. In a world filled with challenges and darkness, this theme serves as a beacon of hope and a call to action.
Fr. Louie Coronel, O.P., the UST Secretary General, emphasizes the University's vision to refocus Thomasians on Christ as the ultimate source of light and hope. He highlights the significance of this message in a time when society faces moral, social, and global crises.
"When the Lord was born, it was a time of great challenges, even darkness, and corruption, much like our world today. But with His arrival, light and hope emerged," Coronel explained during the Paskuhan information session.
He further emphasized the importance of hope, stating, "We celebrate Paskuhan to invite everyone to embrace hope, not just receive it, but to become bearers of hope. No matter what happens, we must remain hopeful."
The theme's inspiration draws from Luke 2:10, "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news..." The phrase 'light among us' finds its roots in the 1,700th anniversary of the Council of Nicaea, where Christ was affirmed as 'God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God.'
"Hope through us" echoes the Jubilee Year of Hope, reminding us that each Thomasian is a vessel of hope for others through acts of kindness, integrity, generosity, and compassion for those in need.
In a circular, the University urged Thomasians to remember that God's light persists even amidst ongoing corruption. "The birth of Christ is a consolation, for He stands with us in our struggles, and a challenge, for His light calls us to uphold truth, justice, and integrity."
On November 28th, UST officially launched the Paskuhan festivities with the illumination of campus lights and decorations in Manila and General Santos, accompanied by the annual battle of the bands, Tunog Tomasino.
Coronel assures that the planned activities will be faith- and prayer-centric, with the Paskuhan Mass at its core, reminding us that the Eucharist is the true essence of our celebration.
The Paskuhan Mass will be held on December 17th at 5 p.m., followed by the Agape feast and concert. Simbang Gabi, the novena Masses, will commence on December 15th and continue until December 24th, with services at Santisimo Rosario Parish Church and Plaza Mayor.
The grand Paskuhan concert, a highly anticipated event, is scheduled for December 19th at 3 p.m. at the UST Open Field.
So, as we gather for Paskuhan, let's embrace the light and hope that Christ brings, and let's be the bearers of that hope to those around us.
